Therapeutic Approach

Trauma Therapy

A gentle, body-informed approach to safely processing trauma and reclaiming your sense of safety and self.

Understanding Trauma

Trauma is not defined by the event itself, but by how it was experienced and stored in the nervous system. It can stem from a single overwhelming experience such as an accident, loss, or assault, or from prolonged exposure to stress, neglect, or relational harm over time.

Trauma lives in the body. It can show up as hypervigilance, numbness, flashbacks, difficulty sleeping, relationship challenges, physical symptoms, or a pervasive sense of unsafety. Effective trauma therapy must address not just the mind, but the body and nervous system.

A Polyvagal Approach

I incorporate Polyvagal Theory, developed by Dr. Stephen Porges, into trauma treatment. This science-based framework helps us understand how the autonomic nervous system mediates our feelings of safety, connection, and threat. Through Polyvagal exercises and practices, we work to gently expand your window of tolerance and help your nervous system feel safer in the world.

Guided Imagery for Healing

Guided imagery is a gentle, powerful technique that uses the mind's natural capacity for visualization to resource, calm, and heal. It provides a way to access deeper emotional processing without re-traumatization, making it an ideal complement to talk therapy.
