Online Therapy

Therapy Anywhere in Oregon

Secure video sessions from wherever you are, whether that is a Portland apartment or forty minutes down a gravel road.

Anywhere in the State

I am licensed in Oregon (L18011), which means I can work with anyone physically located in the state at the time of our session. Portland and Eugene and Salem, yes. Also Burns, Astoria, Klamath Falls, and the places where the nearest therapist taking new clients is two hours away and booked through spring.

I hold a California license as well (LIC #22048). If you split your year between the two states, or you are moving between them, the work does not have to stop at the border.

Does It Work as Well as Being in the Room?

This is the question I get most, and the honest answer is that it holds up better than most people expect. Video therapy has been studied against in-person care for years now, particularly for anxiety, depression, and PTSD, and the outcomes come out comparable. What carries the work is the relationship between two people paying close attention to each other, and that survives a screen.

A few things do shift. EMDR adapts well to video, and the bilateral stimulation can be handled on screen once we set it up together. Couples sessions go best when both partners are in the same room with one camera between them, though two locations can work when travel or scheduling leaves no other option. And if what you are facing calls for a higher level of care than weekly outpatient therapy, I will tell you that directly and help you find it. Keeping you in something that is not working would serve neither of us.

How Sessions Actually Work

Secure and private

Sessions take place over Zoom on a private, encrypted connection. Scheduling and paperwork live separately, in SimplePractice.

Joining a session

A Zoom link arrives by email beforehand. Click it at your appointment time and you are in.

A tip that matters

Headphones do more for privacy than anything else, especially if there are other people in the house.

Scheduling

Fifty minutes, daytime or early evening, at the same time each week when we can manage it.

Most people already have Zoom on a computer or a phone, so there is usually nothing new to learn. If it is unfamiliar, or you are not sure your internet will hold up, say so on the consultation call and we will take a few minutes at the start of your first session to get you set up.

When Online Is the Better Choice

You live somewhere with a short list of therapists, and a shorter list who are taking anyone new.
Chronic illness, pain, or fatigue makes leaving the house an expensive decision.
Your schedule survives a fifty-minute session but not the ninety minutes of driving around it.
You moved within Oregon and would rather not start over with someone new.
You want a therapist who is not part of your local social world.
Getting childcare handled is harder than the therapy itself.

Finding a Room of Your Own

The most common obstacle is not technology. It is finding fifty minutes somewhere nobody can overhear you. A parked car works. So does a spare bedroom with a white noise machine running outside the door, or an office after everyone else has gone home. Whatever you come up with is fine, and it does not have to be elegant. If privacy at home is genuinely impossible, say so early and we will solve it together before it quietly undermines the sessions.

Insurance and Getting Started

I am in network with Regence BlueShield, UnitedHealthcare, and Aetna, and I see private-pay clients as well. Telehealth coverage varies from plan to plan, so it is worth checking before your first session. Send a note with your plan details and we will help you verify your benefits.

I am currently accepting new clients, with daytime and early evening times available. If you would rather meet face to face and you are in Central Oregon, the Bend office is here.

What to Expect

What Happens After You Reach Out

01

You reach out

Send a message or leave a voicemail, whichever feels easier. I personally respond within one business day, usually by email.

02

We talk, no obligation

A relaxed 15-minute phone call to see if we might be a good fit. Ask me anything. If I’m not the right person, I’ll do my best to point you toward someone who is.

03

Your first session

There’s nothing to prepare and nothing you have to talk about before you’re ready. The first session is simply about getting to know you, your story, and what you hope for.

Start From Wherever You Are

A short message is enough to begin. Tell me what is going on and we will find a time to talk.
